John Trowbridge

John Trowbridge

John Cowan Trowbridge of Carver, Minnesota (formerly of Maple
Plain, Minnesota) passed away on February 17, 2024 at the age of 81. He was born on February 24, 1942 in Minneapolis and spent his childhood in Maple Plain. He graduated from Orono High School in 1960 and started working for Offset Compositors in Minneapolis. John married Catherine Waid on May 6, 1967 and spent nearly 57 years together. The two raised their family in John’s childhood home.
As a huge car enthusiast, John was a member of a car club that called themselves “The Lancers”, named after his favorite car model. He was partial to the Corvette or “Vette” as the car guys
would say; he owned a blue one, but took great pride in having the latest model of whatever vehicle he owned. He also loved woodworking. He had a personal wood shop where he and Cathie spent countless hours creating various items and fixing whatever needed fixing; but mostly spent time together doing things that brought them joy. John loved sports and was an avid Vikings and Twins fan. He especially loved watching the University of Minnesota Golden Gopher football team. Listening to a variety of music but especially classic country and jazz music, notably Frank Sinatra, and watching Clint Eastwood movies were some of John’s other favorite pastimes.
After retiring, John and Cathie moved to Custer, South Dakota where they spent 12 years in the Black Hills enjoying the beauty of the landscape. There were many trips had by his children, grandchildren, friends and family out to Custer to enjoy their slice of heaven.
In 2012 John had a stoke and in 2014 Cathie was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, so by 2015 it was time for them to return to Minnesota. John and Cathie moved to Chaska to be closer to family. In June of 2023 they moved again, this time into Carver Ridge Senior Living, in order to receive the care they needed for John’s numerous health issues and mobility challenges, along with Cathie’s progressing Dementia.
John is preceded in death by his parents, Jim & Thelma Trowbridge. He is survived by his children James (Cindy) and Andrea (Greg), grandchildren Madeline, Ethan and Andrew, cousins and many friends.
The family would like to thank Carver Ridge Senior Living and Lifespark Hospice for the care and compassion they showed John in his final days.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life at First Presbyterian Church in Maple Plain on Saturday, March 16th at 1pm. The service will be live-streamed on Facebook.
