Sue Kyllo

Sue Kyllo

Tribute to Susan by her sister Sylvia:

It seems only right to let you all know that we lost one of the Kyllo siblings early this morning.  One of my four sisters, the Rev. Susan Kyllo, passed away after years of "living????" with dementia.  While it is so sad to lose someone you love, you have to celebrate that they are no longer suffering.  It was a horrible, long ongoing death process.

Susan was a very bright woman. She never married; adopted a teenage girl who needed a parent; taught high school and then turned to her calling.  She was one of the very first women in the Lutheran Church to become ordained. She would have celebrated 40 years this year. Susan and others paved the way for many women who followed. The picture I have attached was taken of her when we all gathered to help celebrate the 25th anniversary of her ordination. (2005) Susan lived in Coos Bay, OR, three of my sibs live in MN and I, here in AZ. The times where all five of us were together were few, but always special.  For a once in lifetime event, we five went to a ranch in Big Timber Montana in 2003 to celebrate my brother's 50th birthday.  Just the five of us for a few days of fun and shenanigans .  (We all smoked pot and laid down outside and looked up at a sky like you can't believe - NO LIGHTS in sight, just the stars. No sound but crickets. It was magical.)

One of the many things I will remember is her infectious laugh.  She was 8 1/2 years older than me and could stay up late watching the Johnny Carson show back in the '60's.  I would be upstairs in my bedroom and I would hear her from downstairs, where she sat alone, most every night watching Johnny do Johnny.

Telling people your sister has died is not something to throw out into a ZOOM call (i.e. Book Club Ladies) and there are too many to call one at a time.  For those of you who are grieving the loss of a loved one, and you know who you are, for those of you are experiencing your own medical emergency, and you know who you are, I want to say it's been a tough year and my thoughts are with you all.

There is nothing for anyone to do, but I couldn't NOT share this loss of a sister with my circle of friends.

Stay safe and well.  Hugs, Sylvia

So sorry to hear of Sue's passing...I have had a horrible 2020 as well.  Loss of loved  ones, (I have had 3 ) is never easy and the pain goes away very slowly.

Your family trip for your brother's birthday sounds wonderful!  Great memories for you.

Sue with the smiling eyes.   She and I did many things together growing up.  Sue had two sisters the same age/grades  as my sisters.  So between our schools and church lots of fun times were had by the  Kyllo/Ferch girls.   Sue and I especially had our Luther League fun/MISCHIEF!  Brings a smile to my face remembering.   Sue will No doubtl be missed by her family and her many friends.     Cheryl Ferch Porter

My condolence to Sue's family and friends. May God give you strength and comfort. In school she was friendly and caring about other people. She treated everyone the same. God has a beautiful soul up in heaven.
