Jon Hoglund

We've been down at our winter home in Tarpon Springs, FL and were preparing to return to IA so that Jon could have cataract surgery on 2/2 and 2/16. His pre-op appt. was for Wed. the 27th. After loading up and gassing the car we went to bed about 10:30 Sun. evening. I awoke about 12:30 to the sound of a thud. I went looking for Jon and found him on the kitchen floor. I touch his shoulder and he was sweaty which means he was having a low blood sugar. I got the grape juice bottle and a straw. He was sucking on the straw and suddenly stopped. I then realized he had stopped breathing. I started CPR chest compression and called 911. They worked on Jon for at least 45 minutes before they took him to the hospital where he was declared dead.

It has been Jon's wish to be cremated, so that's in the works. He always said he wanted to be an organ donor. Because of the circumstances of his passing, I was at least able to have his corneas donated. We are planning a celebration of Jon's life service back in Davenport, IA on Sat. Feb. 6, 2016 at Runge's Mortuary at 12 noon. In lieu of flowers we are asking that donations be given in Jon's name to either the American Diabetes Assn. or American Heart Assn.

Jon was so looking forward to his cataract surgery. The prospect of not wearing glasses after 65 years of wearing them was delighting him.

This all seems like a nightmare that I'm not waking up from!

Whenever I saw Jon, at reunions mostly, he always seemed to being enjoying life, loving family, and appreciating friends. What a nice way to be remembered.
